DeepWiki
Wikipedia-style AI docs for any GitHub repo — swap github.com for deepwiki.com and get an instant wiki.
About
DeepWiki is Cognition's (the Devin company) free tool that turns any public GitHub repository into a navigable, AI-generated wiki. Replace github.com with deepwiki.com in a repo URL and it produces an architecture overview, module dependency graphs, class and function documentation, and an AI chat assistant that answers questions grounded in the actual codebase. Over 30,000 repositories were pre-indexed at launch, covering 4 billion+ lines of code. It also exposes a free hosted MCP server so coding agents like Claude Code or Cursor can query repo documentation programmatically.
The honest picture: it only covers public repositories — private repos require a Devin account. AI-generated docs can drift from reality on fast-moving codebases, and the depth of analysis varies a lot between repos. It is a comprehension aid, not a substitute for reading the source when correctness matters.
What it can do
- AI-generated wiki pages for any public GitHub repo
- Architecture overviews with Mermaid dependency diagrams
- Conversational Q&A grounded in the codebase
- Free hosted MCP server for agent integrations
- Shareable wiki and answer links
Setup
No install needed — replace github.com with deepwiki.com in any public repo URL. For agent access, point an MCP client at the hosted deepwiki MCP endpoint.
