Cohere builds enterprise-focused AI: the Command family of LLMs, Embed and Rerank retrieval models, and North, a secure AI workplace platform where business users chat with company data and build no-code agents. Founded by former Google Brain researchers, the Toronto company differentiates on data privacy, offering cloud APIs plus on-premises and air-gapped deployment for regulated industries.
In August 2025 Cohere raised $500 million at a $6.8 billion valuation, co-led by Radical Ventures and Inovia Capital with participation from NVIDIA, AMD Ventures, and Salesforce Ventures. Honest caveats: its models are closed and enterprise-priced, and it competes directly with hyperscalers bundling their own models into cloud contracts.
