Code Climate
Engineering intelligence platform with DORA metrics via Velocity and code quality via Quality.
About
Code Climate is an engineering management platform that gives leaders visibility into team health and delivery performance. Its Velocity product delivers DORA metrics (deploy frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, mean time to recovery) with drill-downs into the underlying pull request data, plus an Incidents API that lets teams push incident data from tools like PagerDuty and Opsgenie. Velocity 2.0 added configurable metrics, custom health-check algorithms, thresholds, and a reports builder.
Alongside Velocity, Code Climate Quality provides automated code review with maintainability ratings based on static analysis. The platform positions itself as the configurable option in the engineering intelligence space: teams can turn off metrics they don't care about and define their own success criteria rather than accepting fixed dashboards.
Limitation: Code Climate is a metrics and visibility layer, not a workflow automation tool — it won't route PRs or enforce processes for you. Per-developer pricing can add up at scale, and teams primarily wanting lightweight DORA baselines may find simpler tools sufficient.
What it can do
- DORA and SPACE metrics with drill-down analytics
- Incidents API for change failure rate and MTTR tracking
- Configurable metrics, thresholds, and custom dashboards
- Automated code review with maintainability ratings
