Boomi

Integration and API management platform with federated governance and agentic AI support.

About

Boomi is a cloud-native integration and API management platform that unifies application integration, API exposure and governance, data pipelines, and AI-agent management in one control plane. Its API management layer (strengthened by the May 2024 acquisition of APIIDA's federated APIM business and assets from Cloud Software Group) addresses API sprawl with federated governance, and it has added MCP support for agent-ready enterprise APIs.

Founded in 2000 by Rick Nucci, Boomi pioneered the iPaaS category, was acquired by Dell in 2010, and was spun out in October 2021 to Francisco Partners and TPG Capital in a $4B cash deal. It is the only vendor named a Leader in both the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrants for iPaaS (12th consecutive time) and API Management, and in 2024-2025 it acquired Rivery (data integration) and Thru (managed file transfer). It is enterprise-priced and sales-led, aimed at organizations consolidating integration, APIs, and data on one platform rather than point tools.

What it can do

  • Federated API management with sprawl governance
  • Low-code integration designer
  • MCP support for agent-ready APIs
  • Data integration (Rivery) and MFT (Thru)
  • API security and lifecycle policies
  • Unified platform for integration, APIs, data, and agents

Setup

Engage Boomi sales for a trial workspace; build integrations in the low-code designer and expose APIs through the APIM layer.

Prerequisites

Sales-led trial or subscription; cloud connectivity to source systems.

Trust score — 8/10

/10 trustVerified

Scored 8/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: $4B Dell spin-out documented on Boomi's own site; Gartner Leader placements reported by Business Wire and IT Brief. Strengths: uniquely positioned across iPaaS and APIM with real momentum (Rivery, Thru, APIIDA acquisitions), credible agentic-AI story. Docked for: (1) enterprise sales-led pricing with no public self-serve tier; (2) breadth means less depth in pure-gateway scenarios than dedicated gateway products; (3) PE ownership since 2021. License: proprietary.
