About

Awesome Screenshot is one of the oldest screen-capture browser extensions, from Diigo Inc., spanning Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. It captures the visible area, a selected region, or the whole page, annotates with rectangles, circles, arrows, lines, text, and a blur tool for sensitive data, and also records the screen or webcam with MP4 download. Finished captures upload with one click for a shareable link, and the paid tiers add integrations with Slack, Trello, Asana, Jira, and Google Drive.

The free version caps out at 100 screenshots, which is the main nudge toward paid. Basic starts around $6 a month with unlimited screenshots, Professional around $8 removes video limits and adds project integrations, and Workspace Premium is about $10 per team member. It is a closed-source freemium product with no published independent benchmarks, and its longevity is both the argument and the fine print: a well-worn tool with an aging codebase competing against newer open-source alternatives.

Trust score — 7/10

/10 trustMetrics-checked

Scored 7/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: reviews confirm the capture modes, annotation tools, recording, and the free 100-screenshot cap with Basic at ~$6/mo, Pro ~$8/mo, and Workspace ~$10/mo per member; Diigo Inc. is confirmed as the developer. Strengths: one of the longest-running extensions in the category with broad browser and platform coverage. Docked for: (1) the tight free cap and closed source; (2) privacy and tracker concerns raised by competitor comparisons remain unverified by independent audit; (3) no published independent benchmarks. License: proprietary freemium.
