Auggie

Augment Code's agentic coding CLI — the company's codebase-aware assistant, in your terminal.

About

Auggie is Augment's official agentic coding CLI, the terminal counterpart to the Augment Code platform. It understands your codebase and works through natural language: analyzing code, making edits, and automating routine development tasks. Custom slash commands live as Markdown files in .augment/commands/, so teams can version their own prompt library (code review, bug fix, security review) alongside the repo.

It is a small, young project — a few hundred GitHub stars as of October 2026 — and the license field is undeclared, so treat it as proprietary until stated otherwise. What it has going for it is first-party status: this is not a community wrapper around Augment's API, it is the company's own CLI, with docs at docs.augmentcode.com. The --print flag makes it CI-friendly for one-shot runs.

The honest caveat: you are buying into Augment's platform and its account/login flow, not a bring-your-own-model tool. If you want a provider-agnostic terminal agent, look at opencode or nanocoder instead. Pick Auggie if your team already runs on Augment Code and wants that same assistant at the command line.

What it can do

  • Agentic coding in the terminal: codebase analysis, code edits, task automation
  • Custom slash commands from Markdown files in .augment/commands/
  • One-shot non-interactive mode via --print (CI-friendly)
  • Quiet mode returning only final output
  • First-party integration with the Augment Code platform

Setup

  1. Install with Node 22+: npm install -g @augmentcode/auggie@latest.
  2. Authenticate: auggie login.
  3. cd into your project and run auggie "your prompt".
  4. For CI or scripts, use auggie --print "instruction" (add --quiet for final-output-only).
  5. Drop reusable prompts in .augment/commands/*.md to get custom slash commands.

Prerequisites

Node.js 22+; an Augment Code account (login via the CLI).
