Amp
Agentic coding tool from Sourcegraph, spun out as an independent company in December 2025.
About
Amp is an agentic coding tool that began life as a Sourcegraph project and was spun out as an independent company, Amp Inc., in December 2025, with Sourcegraph co-founders Quinn Slack and Beyang Liu leading it. It runs across four surfaces: a terminal CLI (installed via curl from ampcode.com), a web app, and native macOS and iOS apps, with a persistent conversation thread that follows the developer across devices.
The tool pairs frontier models with coding-specific machinery: specialist subagents like Oracle (second-opinion analysis) and Librarian (cross-repository research), cloud sandboxes called Orbs for parallel agent work, and workspace-level model routing so teams control which models and keys agents may use. Amp charges pass-through model pricing with no markup; the Hobby plan is free with bring-your-own keys, Individual is $20/month, and Teams keeps per-member plans with custom Enterprise pricing. Note that Amp retired its editor extensions in February 2026 and pivoted CLI-first, and its docs state it does not ask for tool approval by default, so teams should configure a policy plugin for guardrails.

- Specialist subagents (Oracle, Librarian) and cloud sandbox Orbs for parallel work
- Workspace model routing with bring-your-own keys and pass-through pricing
